Microchipping

Microchipping

Every year, thousands of pets go missing – but a tiny chip can make all the difference.

At Tails Humane Society, we believe that every pet deserves a chance to find their way home. That’s why we offer affordable microchipping services to help reunite lost pets with the people who love them most.

What is a Microchip?

A microchip is a small device, about the size of a grain of rice that is quickly and safely implanted under your pet’s skin, usually between the shoulder blades. It contains a unique ID number that’s registered with your contact information in a national database. If your pet is ever lost and brought to a shelter or veterinary clinic, a quick scan of the microchip can help reunite you. A microchip is not a GPS tracking device.

Why Microchipping Matters.

Collars and tags can fall off. Microchips are permanent.
While collars and ID tags are important, they’re not foolproof. A microchip provides a secure, lifelong form of identification that dramatically increases the chances of a lost pet being returned home. In fact, studies show that microchipped pets are more than twice as likely to be reunited with their owners.

Microchipping at Tails

We’re proud to offer low-cost microchipping for just $25, available by appointment at our shelter.

Each microchip includes lifetime registration through 24Petwatch, with no annual fees or renewal costs. Just one appointment can provide a lifetime of protection. Appointments are quick and easy, and usually take less than 10 minutes! Microchipping can also be added during your pet’s visit to our Spay/Neuter Clinic for even more convenience.
