Summer Reading Program

Summer Reading Program

This summer, Tails Humane Society is inviting children ages 5–12 to practice their reading skills while helping shelter pets feel more comfortable and loved through the Summer Reading Program. Held on weekdays from 11 AM to 12 PM throughout June, July, and August, the program gives children the opportunity to read aloud to dogs, cats, or rabbits waiting for their forever homes.

Reading to animals can help young readers build confidence and improve literacy skills in a fun, judgment-free environment while also providing enrichment and socialization for shelter pets. Children may choose which type of animal they would like to read to based on availability, creating a fun and meaningful experience for both kids and animals alike.

A parent or guardian over the age of 18 is required to attend, and up to three children may participate in a session together. Bring books from home and enjoy a unique way to give back to homeless animals this summer.

Families interested in scheduling a reading session can contact Becky at volunteer@tailshumanesociety.org

A suggested $10 donation helps support the care of the pets at the shelter.
