TAILS Celebrates Senior Pets with the

Red Collar Society

Red Collar Society pets are cats over 8 years and dogs over 6 years.

Senior Pets at TAILS have honorary red collars on their kennels.

Adoption fees are lower for seniors:

     $95 for senior dogs

    $25 for senior cats

Each pet comes with a free engraved red collar ID tag

TAILS honors the finer qualities of pets who have a few years on them. The elder pet is usually housebroken and past the rambunctious or destructive stages of youth. If your home is stable, relatively a quiet one with perhaps you're an empty nester or a family with older children, your perfect match might be a senior pet. Older dogs and cats can learn new tricks with patience and repititon.

"I encourage others to adopt a senior pet," says Sharon Blair who adopted 7 year old Boston terrier named Lois. "I feel this dog has some good years left, and it's my privilege to make sure they are happy ones."

When Lois passed away in Dec, 2009, at age 13, Sharon said, "Lois was a one of a kind, very special and touched my heart like no other pet. After awhile, I will be on the lookout for another old one. I know there is pain with letting them go, but it was well worth it. I will not hesitate to do it again."

Please open your heart and home to these dear pets in the autumn of their lives.

CATS
Ashley: Her owner passed and this 18-year old girl was brought to TAILS. She's living with in foster care but available for adoption. Let the staff know you would like to meet her and arrangements can be made. Ashley is a medium sized gray cat who is very friendly. She lived with other cats and dogs.
Kissie: She's a 14-year old lady with a lot of kick in her! She's a medium sized girl and her front paws have been declawed. She takes meds for hyperthyroid but is healthy. Originally, she was rescued from a bad situation and now wants lots of love. She enjoys investigating the world around her. Kissie is black with a triangle of white on her neck. She's a cutie.
Stella: She's 13-years old and lived at another shelter for six years before being transferred to TAILS to find a real home for her. Stella is a Calico Cat, healthy and medium sized. Please visit her and give her a good Forever Home.
Ollie: He's a 10-year old cat who was rescued from another shelter. He's a medium sized black and brown tabby who would love to have a loving Forever Home.
Nellie: She's a 10-year old girl at TAILS because her owner passed away. She's a beautiful medium sized grey cat who would love a new home filled with love.
Sweet Pea: She's a 10- year old sweetie who is at TAILS due to the death of her owner. She's a medium sized cat and long-haired mix whose fur is a beautiful black and orange tortoiseshell.
Miss Kitty: She's a girl who has seen a lot in this big old world. She was a stray and a survivor. Miss Kitty, 10-years old, is a medium sized Calico cat who would love to settle into a Forever Home where she will be cared for in style.
Nala: She's a shy and quiet girl who was brought to TAILS because her owner developed allergies to her. Nala is an 8-year old girl who wants a home so she can become relaxed and the loving cat she has hidden inside.
Orland: He's an 8-year young, medium sized gray tiger cat who came from a home that had too many cats. He's looking to be loved as an individual. He enjoys the company of other cats.

DOGS
P-nut: He's a 10-year old white Poodle mix who was given to his owner as a gift, and after 6-months, his owner didn't want him. P-nut is a small, white dog who has lived with children and a large dog. He'll jump into your lap softly for hugs and kisses. He's used to sleeping in his bed on the floor. P-nut isn't interested in toys--he wants you!
Miles: He's a 9-year old purebred Minature Schnauzer who was originally rescued from Oklahoma. He was adopted for ten months and was a buddy with the other  family dogs. Miles was crated when he was home alone and slept in the bedroom at night. He's a sweet little guy who will jump softly into your lap to be close to you. Please give him a chance
Trixie: She's a little short-coated Chihuahua mix whose coat is brown. She's 8-years old and has lived with both cats and dogs. Her family is moving and couldn't take her with them. Do you have a home for Trixie?
Molly: She is a 7-year old Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix who was given to TAILS due to the poor health of her owner. Molly weighs 44-pounds and is a calm, well-mannered, gentle girl who seeks attention. She's healthy, smart and likes to sleep in her bed next to her owner's bed. She loves to be petted and to be with her special person. You?
Peanut: He's a 7-year old purebred Beagle of medium size, perfect to sit in your lap for petting and cuddling. Peanut would like a quiet home with no young children. He knows the commands come, down, sit and stay. He loves attention from adults.
Millie: She's a 7-year old black and white rat terrier/Beagle mix who was first rescued from a southern Illinois flood. She is crate trained. Millie's challenge is that she suffers from separation anxiety. She loves to be held closely and petted. Millie knows the commands come, down and sit. She softly jumps onto your lap for affection. She's been available for adoption since June and is so anxious to find her Forever Friend.
Molly: She's a 7-year old Australian Cattle Dog/Beagle mix who was originally brought to TAILS as a stray puppy and adopted. She's at TAILS again because her family has to move. She's had one owner all of her life.Molly is a wonderful dog who has lived with children, dogs and cats. She's housetrained. Molly likes to sleep in her own bed in the bedroom and is accustomed to being left free in the house when she's alone. She likes to go for walks and prefers to be with people or running in a fenced yard. One thing, Molly, like many dogs, is frightened by vaccum cleaners!
Lily: She's a 6-year old Japanese Chin mix who is living with a foster parent right now. The foster would be happy to make an appointment for you to meet darling Lily. She seeks gentle attention and will lean into you for hugs. Lily prefers people to toys.
Maggie: She's a 6-year old girl who weighs 27 pounds. She's a mix of American Cocker Spaniel and Poodle. Maggie is at TAILS because one of her owners passed away and the other moved to a nursing home. Maggie has lived with dogs. She doesn't care for the boisterous activities of young children and would do best in a quieter home where she can receive gentle loving care. She has lots of love to give.
